Environment

Acme are committed to actively conserving our environment.

Helping to reduce our environmental impact

Acme recognises the importance of managing and reducing the environmental effects of its operations and is committed to continuous improvement. Some of the measures in place to help are:

  • Using biodegradable chainsaw oil
  • Ensuring machinery is switched off and not left idling when not in use
  • Arisings are re-cycled as seasoned logs, or woodchip for gardening, play areas
  • Encouraging our customers to leave habitat stumps for woodpeckers, bats etc. and log piles for many other species of wildlife
  • Adhering to the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000, the Habitat Regulations 2007 and the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986
  • Making no unnecessary journeys in company vehicles
  • Communicating as much as possible through technology, i.e. internet/email/telephone etc. to avoid unnecessary journeys, paper wastage, postage fees etc.
  • Purchasing only machinery/equipment that is designed to reduce environmental impact
  • Sourcing less harmful substances when spraying

Waste Management and Recycling

The majority of generated tree waste is perfect for recycling and, of course, helps in some way towards protecting our precious environment. We remove all waste from the sites at which we work and, where possible, recycle it as seasoned firewood or wood chippings for use in the garden, cushioning for play areas or for livery use.

Wildlife Protection

All birds, their nests and eggs are protected by law under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 and the Habitat Regulations 2007 collectively and if breached can result in significant penalties.

Acme will undertake a habitat assessment at all sites before undertaking any work. If protected species or their roosts are discovered whilst undertaking any work, operatives will stop and inform the relevant authorities for further advice.

As part of our commitment to try and encourage more wildlife, where appropriate and practical, we will encourage our customers to leave habitat stumps and log piles.
